I am always looking for the “next best thing” or anything to make my life easier. I love a new gadget, new electronic, new app, new cooking tool… give me all of the Amazon “Best Of” Lists! While some household items can be rather pricey, some are completely affordable and practical, and if they improve my lifestyle, or more importantly, my health (ahem: #1)… then gimme gimme gimme!
My Top FIVE Household Items:
5. Nest Cam
This nifty little camera can be used indoors or outdoors and it connects to your phone. Whether you travel a lot, have various sitters (note: you have to let your sitters know there are cameras in your house!), or you’re a working Mama, this camera gives you access to your house on the daily and conveniently. When we travel, I always like to know why there has been “motion” detected and further – we have been able to replay BEARS breaking into our house… talk about the best video ever! One downside, you can not hear the audio in two rooms at the same time, which means this does not work as a baby monitor for more than one child – we learned the hard – and expensive – way!

Full disclosure, this vacuum works best if you have a one-story house that isn’t humungous. This may have been my #1 item if I didn’t have to pick it up and move it all over my house to use effectively. BUT, this little guy picks up EVERYTHING. Not kidding, I was on my hands and knees picking up water beads from our carpet, gave up and ran the Roomba… it worked! I think the hefty price tag was worth this one experience alone.
You can usually find these for a deal at Costco or buy here.
3. Affresh Laundry Pods
Do you have a front-load washing machine? If you do, have you ever cleaned it? Like, really cleaned it? Chances are your laundry machine is disgusting and overflowing with mold and odor. I did some serious research on how to clean my laundry machine and was at a loss until I discovered these guys. You pop one into your machine, run a load, and once the load is completed most or all of the mold and odors are gone. One con, if you are into “natural” cleaning products, this isn’t for you. This is full of chemicals to get rid of the harsh stuff. With my daughter’s allergies and sensitive skin, I always run one additional load with plain vinegar and baking soda to get rid of any leftover chemicals these pods leave behind. So far, there haven’t been any additional skin rashes. BOOM!
You can buy them here.
2. Amazon Alexa
I am such a walking Amazon commercial. I am a 100% sucker for most things “best-selling” and this is no exception. The Alexa has added so much joy to our family for many different reasons. Have you ever grown tired of your child asking “why” questions… ask Alexa. Do your parents ask you how to listen to music in their house… buy them Alexa. Ever need a family activity… try asking Alexa to make animal sounds. Catch my drift? It’s totally worth the buy.

1. AlenSmart Air Purifier
Have you ever walked into someone’s house and thought “geez that dog smell is potent!”? Does your child have allergies? Do you want to reduce your chances of getting sick? If you answered yes to any of these you may want to check out the AlenSmart Air Purifier. My brother-in-law turned us on to this product after he discovered he was allergic to their new family dog. He bought one of these and guess what?… they still have their family pet. This little gadget is amazing for getting rid of bacteria, nasty odors, and common allergens. The Pure filter helps kill airborne germs, bacteria, fungus, and viruses including the flu. Check, check, and check!
